Great Ocean Road on a nice day

On our way back to Melbourne we stopped off at a couple of the sights. It was a lovely day and the photos sparkle.

Wynn's winery

If you have visited us either in the US or Australia, you might remember a wall hanging that looks like this.

It's Wynn's winery in the Coonawarra area of South Australia. This image (reversed) is part of their label and Marianne really likes it, so we decided to see it along the way back to Melbourne.

And here are two of the buildings. They are now tasting areas.

The Coonawarra is famous for its layer of red soil which influences the flavour of the wine.

Old vines.

Younger vines.

This is one of their wines and they are much better when they have several years to mature and become more complex.

Whispering Wall

Just north east of Adelaide on the way to the Barossa Valley is this curious dam where if you speak at one end of the curved dam wall, you can be heard clearly at the other end of the wall.

The wall.

Where you stand.

The dam is almost full.

We walked over to the other side.

Looking back. We tried talking and were heard clearly on the other side. No training was needed.

Picnic area. It was an absolutely beautiful day.

Silo Art

We are driving from Melbourne to Adelaide with my younger sister Clare and her husband, Ric, to visit my older sister Anne and her husband, Michael. The two sisters last saw each other twenty years ago. Along the way we stopped at some small country towns to look at some grain silos that have art paintings on them.

Ric takes a photo in St Arnaud in western Victoria.

The side of the silo.

The artist on a shed across the street.

The architecture in Victoria is so different from that of Queensland.

We stayed in Horsham overnight and had waffles for brekkie next morning.

The waffle itself was not the best but the rest of it was suitably decadent for breakfast.

Next silo at Garoke.

Kookaburra.

Magpie.

Galah.

The bright morning sun makes the trees look so beautiful.

Kaniva.

Lovely old house.

Coonalpyn in South Australia.

I like these mysterious doors into the silo.

The children who were the models. I bet they are proud of themselves.

Former church. Converting them into residences is quite popular.

Clare and Ric saluting nothing in particular.

Most businesses in these little country towns have closed. The silo art is encouraging travellers to stop and take a break as well as bringing some tourists to the town.

Burned building.

The bakery is now situated in the former Post Office. I had a very good pasty.

Some more murals across the road.

At each of our stops, there were other visitors. It's a wonderful way to break up a long drive and take breaks.
