Rainbow Beach

It sounds inviting and it is a lovely spot. The local area is surrounded by multi-coloured sand dunes, hence the name, Rainbow Beach.

Rainbow Beach lies just south of Fraser Island and is exposed to the Pacific Ocean. There was no wind so no waves.

There is a car ferry a few miles north at Inskip Point that goes to the southern tip of K'gari (Fraser Island). Four-wheel drive is essential and driving on the beach is an attraction. Apparently, you can drive on the beach here as well.

There are lots of accidents where inexperienced four-wheel drivers lose control of their vehicles or become bogged in the soft sand.

Since it was almost noon, I contemplated eating lunch here and having a wonderful view, but we had planned to drive on to nearby Kin Kin. When we arrived there, the cafe was closed for renovations and even the local Kin Kin pub was closed. Bugger!

Tin Can Bay

Another delightful name. 

It's another very popular fishing area.

The sense of peace and quiet is almost overwhelming here. Why get excited about anything?

Poona

Poona. What a lovely name! It rolls off the tongue. It's a tiny coastal village about 30 mils south of Hervey Bay.

The unit complex where we live is 40 years old and a problem has occurred in the sewerage pipes at the foot of our building. As part of the repair, the water and sewerage was cut off for a day so we decided to go for a drive.

It was an absolutely gorgeous winter's day. In the distance is K'gari (Fraser Island).

The foreshore is lined with mangroves.

Trees abound.

A couple of the local houses. It's a very popular area for fishermen.
