Instead of staying overnight at a hotel near LAX before flying to the east coast, we decided to check out the Santa Barbara area to the north west of Los Angeles for a few days. We found an Airbnb in nearby Carpinteria and drove up.
I had thought of doing the trip by the coast road but the GPS had other ideas and took us via the jammed freeways. However both trips would have taken about the same amount of time.
For once I managed to get a very good night's sleep, courtesy of a melatonin pill. Marianne slept until 10 am which is rare for her.
Carpinteria is a nice little town and nowhere near as busy or touristy as Santa Barbara.
When you cross the street, cars wait for you.
Many buildings have Mexican / Spanish style architecture.
Tall palm trees line the streets.
Picturesque mural.
Once we got out of Los Angeles, we past lots of fields where people were picking crops. Ingredients are wonderful in most of California.
We had brunch at this cafe which was quite busy.
Each of us managed to consume one of these. It was as disgustingly good as you might expect.
We haven't made it to the beach yet so you will have to wait for another blog.
Interesting little house on one of the main corners. We walked past it this evening after dinner and the door was open and it is obvious that people live there.
It's very pleasant walking around the town and so far there has been a nice breeze blowing in from the ocean.
Last night we satisfied our craving for some Mexican food.
Fish tacos.
Neither this burrito or the tacos were the best we have ever eaten but they were adequate. The salsa was good. Restaurant food here seems so cheap compared to Aussie prices. However housing costs are high.
