Albi

On the way from the Dordogne we passed through Albi on our way to Castres.

It appears that all the rivers in southern France are flooding. The Tarn is no exception.

The French build their weirs at an angle to the river.

Fortunately, we found a parking spot close to the river so it was s short walk to the Cathedral, but I am sure it was uphill both ways.

The Cathedral is the largest brick structure in the world. Construction started in 1282 and continued for two hundred years. The local brick makers must have made a fortune.

Grand entrance steps. I am coping well with all the stairs.

The actual entrance.

Unlike most cathedrals, the walls are painted.

We can only imagine how much effort and money went into building a structure like this. I presume it costs a fortune to maintain a cathedral like this.
