50 year anniversary - Singapore

Marianne and I met in Sitges ( just south of Barcelona) fifty years ago so we are celebrating by going to Spain and France for three weeks.

We drove down to Brisbane not enjoying the heavy rain that lasted most of the trip. We stayed in a motel overnight and we visited the grave of my grandmother and aunt on the way to the airport.

It's looking worse than the last time we visited.

Our first leg of the journey was economy class on Qantas to Singapore. It's definitely a step up from Jetstar but a definite step down from the Qantas of ten years ago. The flight attendants are still wonderful and very friendly.

We took a Grab (Uber) to our hotel downtown. The road is lined with these wonderful trees.

Famous skyline.

Our hotel is next to a temple.

Inside the temple.

Another temple close by.

An old colonial building. I passed through Singapore 50 years ago and saw the old Singapore just as it was starting to modernize. There is not too much of the old Singapore left.

The street outside our hotel was filled with stalls but most were shutting down at the end of the day.

We went to the nearby hawker market but we had forgotten to get cash from an ATM and most of the stalls only take cash.

Some of the stalls have Michelin stars and long lines of foodies. The food is usually below $5.

Instead we sat outside in a Thai restaurant that took credit cards. They warned us that the restaurant was to be visited by a couple of very noisy dragons since this is the Year of the Dragon.

One of them.

They also had another character who danced around. I have a video I can't post but the din was enormous with a huge drum and numerous symbols.  I just sat there with a big smile on my face.

The performance ended with lots of applause and the performers got on a truck and went to their next gig. It was such an awesome surprise.

Marianne enjoyed a plate of greens.

I had a very tasty chicken curry soup.

And we both enjoyed a very refreshing lime juice. There was a nice sea breeze so it was a lovely evening.

We wandered back to the hotel where the street was lit by these coloured lights.
