The plaza behind our Madrid hotel

I stayed at the Mediodia Hotel across from Atocha Station back in 2018. Since we flew into Madrid and would take the fast train to Barcelona, I decided to stay here again. Last time I had a view of the station but this time we had a view of the plaza behind the hotel.

Next to the hotel is the Bar Brilliante which serves food and booze at outside tables so we decided to have an early dinner.

It was about 5:30 and business was pretty good but we had no trouble finding a table. We both ordered the specialty of the house which is fried calamari in a roll.

Two very cold beers were welcome additions on an unusually warm afternoon.

Entry to the famous art museums in Madrid is free after 6pm and there was already a line to get into the Reina Sophia museum that has several Picasos.

Later about 7 pm, Marianne announced that the street cleaners had arrived. The line for free entry had grown considerably.

Elegant windows at the other end of the plaza. Marianne has been pleasantly surprised by the buildings in Madrid but she is not keen on Goya and does not want to visit the Prado.
