We are staying with old friends, Bronwyn and Russell in Melbourne for three nights. They live in Brighton which is a lovely suburb so we decided to do one of our walks where we look at the local houses.
It's now a fairly wealthy suburb and many of the older houses have been replaced by newer, larger abodes.
Some are quite modern.
Marianne has been enjoying the autumn leaves.
Look at the width of that tree.
We really liked the leaves.
There is $1,000,000 worth of metal.
There is a nation-wide federal election on May 21 and some of the local conservative sitting members have been challenged by female independents. They believe that the local members have swung too far to the right and they have a reasonable chance of success. It will be interesting.
This was the type of house that was knocked down. The land was more valuable than the building.
Soon to be another mega mansion.
There are several of these lovely old houses on this street.
I used to live here in 1973 prior to going to Europe where I met Marianne. My sister, Clare and I lived on the top floor in the middle flat. 50 years ago, this was exceedingly modern and still looks it. There were skylights, multi-coloured light shades, exposed brick interiors, and blue carpet. We were so cool.
I parked my Triumph 2000 car down here.
The other side.
Entrance.
The end facing the busy street. You can see the skylights on top.
I had hoped that somebody would come out of the flats and I could ask them if the carpet was still blue.
Your hero inside.
Well and truly boozed.
We could buy milk etc at the corner shop.
Restoration project.
New and old.
It was a lovely walk, even though the sky was grey.
