Maryborough Open Gardens 2021 - garden 1

By now, the people of Maryborough had finished their breakfast and were ready to boogie. In country towns, any diversion or special event is welcome.

The keen gardeners surround their houses with a jungle of plants.

This was a very substantial house.

Formal walkway.

Cumquat tree. I happened to meet the owner of the house and mentioned that I would like to grow one. He immediately took us back to this tree and invited us to taste the fruit. The skin is soft enough to bite through and you get an intense citrus flavour.

A row of cumquat trees.

The back overlooked the river.

This backyard was designed for entertaining with a huge back verandah and numerous little sitting spots for a quiet conversation.

Another cane fire on the other side of the river.

We could have bought some cake and coffee but M declined.

Another sitting spot.

It's a large house. Note it is on stilts.

The pool. If you ever fly over a wealthy suburb in Australia, you will see that most houses have pools to cool off in on hot days.

It's a really impressive garden in a great location.
