We decided to walk down to the local beach.
But first, you may remember that the border between New South Wales and Queensland is closed to most people. This map shows the border that bisects the local airport. Where we are staying is only 550 meters from the border. By the way, we don't get much noise from planes because most flights have been canceled.
It's about 100 yards to the beach.
In this subtropical climate, stuff just grows and grows, just like this hibiscus.
The beachfront street.
Now that sand is being pumped from the southern side of the Tweed River to replenish the beach in the north, the extra sand has been used to create a much wider barrier of vegetation to prevent erosion during large storms.
It's a bit of a struggle walking a long way in ultra-soft sand.
High rise in Coolangatta to the south.
Looking north to Burleigh Heads.
Not much in the way of surf this day.
It's easy to see why the Gold Coast is so popular with people from the colder areas in Australia like Victoria. Long beaches with beautiful sand, surf, blue skies and warmer temperatures.
The water feels so good on your feet. I describe it as bathing your feet in champagne.
The street where we are staying. If I had to live on the Gold Coast permanently, I would live here. It's a great location. The only problem is the noise from all the building construction in the area.
