Lakes Entrance

We left Wombat Bend and took an inland route through the mountains to Lakes Entrance.

Approaching the mountains.

Autumn colours. It can get down near freezing here.

The drive through these trees is exhiliarating.

Very straight trunks. There was very little traffic.

It's humid here so ferns flourish.

We came to the end of the hills and mountains.

Beautiful green.

A power station tower at Yallourn which supplies electricity to Melbourne and much of Victoria. It uses brown coal and is very polluting. It's due to be decommisioned in 2028.

We stayed overnight at Lakes Entrance. In the morning we took a look at one of the lakes which is very close to the ocean.

The entrance to the ocean.

The Stoney Creek Trestle Bridge. The pilings would have been local trees.

This area suffered dreadfully in the bushfires of 2019-2020. To recover, the trees grown leaves along their entire length.

Look at the white lines on the road. In Victoria, the white lines are corrugated which cause your car to rumble and the noise lets you know you are on a white line. It's a wonderful safety feature in a country where it is so easy to fall asleep while driving.

We came to the little town of Cann River. Every town, no matter how small, has its War Memorial.

It really helps to have a cannon.

And some swings for the kiddies.

More leaves for Marianne.

Her leaf to be treasured.

A small church.

This area was also badly effected.

We turned off the main highway to visit Mallacoota which became famous during the fires. The only road in and out became unpassable.

It's a very popular holiday spot when the normal population of 1000 increases by 8000.

A spotted dick.

During the fire, people sat in the water to be protected. We did not see any evidence of fire damage to houses, but apparently 135 houses were destroyed.

We enjoyed watching some pelicans.

It was pure luck that I captured this photo.

The local caravan park.

It was a really lovely drive. Victoria is such a wonderful state to explore by road.

  1. I wish people would get themselves properly educated regarding the Yallourn and other power stations instead of listening to the liars who harp on about their pollutants. Climate emergency is another propogandist line brought to you by the death cultists in the WEF and WHO and our ever lying CSIRO who refuse to admit publicly that they don't agree with any of this rubbish about Carbon dioxide emissions being harmful - etc, ad nauseum. Try living without Co2 and see how long the planet lasts. Truth is the planet is greener than it has ever been. We are in a mini ice age - yes it is getting COLDER. Facts are being buried because they don't fit in with taking our petrol and diesel and cheap energy from us. Look at the big picture. Read something other than the Age or Herald Sun and for God's sake please stop watching legacy media. Try the TNT app and hear both sides of the story. Ray, thank you for posting all your travels. Please just don't repeat the narratives spun by our corrupt govt. Victoria is a fully socialist state and I have been grieved to see the demise of what was once a magnificent and alluring city. I have now escaped to the freedom of NSW, but sadly there are markers here also of what is to come. The signs on the sides of the road telling you to nap if you're tired - do you think we don't know to do that? Speed cameras that have proven precedent in the law courts of not being able to accurately measure speed - tolls to use the roads that NO ONE can own - permits to build a lean to - permissions needed to just about breathe. It never stops in Vic. Councils should be doing what they're paid to do, rather than becoming the gestapo for the fed govt. Our political corruption has a history of deception and alterations to our constitution not gained by referendum. Almost all laws passed since Whitlam are moot based on this alone. We are slowly sinking into the morass of full govt control as we now have a one world govt clearly seen by the covid idiocy. Wake up people and stop complying. Mass non-cooperation with stupidity must happen or we will never, ever be able to remain autonomous. CDBC's are next and they will wave a carrot for you all like they did with the poisonous and deadly jabs. But - you know - sell your privacy and freedoms for a slice of pizza, by all means. NO!!! stop complying, stop buying into their deceptions.
