Not the famous Harry Potter train to Mallaig

The line from Fort William to Mallaig is famous for the viaduct shown in the films. A special steam train runs at least once a day but it was booked out for the entire month.

The view from the dining room at our hotel. Adequately spectacular for this area.

Before catching the train we walked around downtown Fort William but it was not too inviting.

But it had a nice park.

A sleeper train runs to London every night.

Our train which was almost full.

The Potter train arrived.

We passed over the canal to Loch Ness.

Becoming more mountainous.

The famous  Glenfinnan Viaduct. They play bagpipe music as the train goes across.

It's a spectacular journey.

The name of the viaduct.

Out of the mountains and close to the sea.

Sometimes you take a lousy photo and then you realize part of the photo is interesting.

These mussels came from nearby Arisaig and were delicious. They have a milky flavour and texture.

The car ferry to Skye.

It's definitely a fishing port.

The seagulls are much larger than those in Hervey Bay.

The first class carriage.

The steam engine backed out to get the train rearranged for the return journey.

It was a wonderful trip and a welcome change from driving.
