Takayama Old Town

The big tourist attraction in Takayama is its Old Town with numerous streets lined with old buildings. It's really something to behold.

As you might expect, I took numerous photos and I have included most of them. Just scroll down and if something takes your interest, stop and look closely.

Old Town is on the right of the river.

The other direction.

Marianne would have loved this shop.

A shrine by the river.

Notice the K car.

Deep gutters.

Robin strides ahead. I can't walk as quickly as I used to.

This photo has a blueish tinge.

Robin at the Old Town Archives.

Raked gravel courtyard.

Some Autumn leaves.

A bamboo street cone.

Water fountain.

It was cold enough to need a jacket.

The traditional culture and crafts square. It used to be a soy sauce warehouse in olden times.

It's interesting how they disguised an ugly concrete high-rise building.

A portable shrine is usually parked here but has been taken for an outing.

The shrine.

A sake brewery.

A gutter. It must be heavy rain.
The undersides are painted white to emphasize the eves.

We walked down this covered footpath until we realized it was lined with junky shops.

Another shrine parking spot.

Beautiful.

You guessed it.

Here are the local shrines.

By now I had done enough walking. Robin went off to see more but I headed back to the hotel.

Pedestrian bridge.

The market by the river.

Crossing over the river.

Look at the prices of the beef. $A 1 = 100 yen.

It was an incredible walk and I am so pleased to have been able to do it.
