When we visited Ostheim we forgot to visit the former castle Lichtenburg which sits on a hill just north of Ostheim so we decided to go back to take a look one afternoon.

It's only a couple of miles with the last bit through a dense forest.
It is now mostly ruins, but there is a huge tower.
The views are fabulous. Have I mentioned before that the countryside around here is absolutely beautiful?

Oddly enough, there is a restaurant in the middle of it all.
We walked around the moat area.
The trees are a decent size up here.
One can only begin to imagine the effort needed to build something like this.
And so we left yet another ruined castle.
